Guipavas is situated about 35 miles south-west of Roscoff and approximately 5 miles east of Brest. It has a population of nearly 12,000 and includes the site of Brest airport.
The area is basically agricultural, with a large proportion of the people living in the surrounding villages, many commuting to Brest on a daily basis.
Six schools cater for younger children, whilst the two secondary schools accept students up to the age of fifteen, after which they transfer to Brest.
There is a good range of clubs offering activities from football, basketball, tennis, hockey and athletics to music and theatre. An unusual spectator sport is Breton wrestling.
